Severn Trent is a FTSE 100 company, playing a vital role in supporting the communities we serve by delivering essential water and wastewater services to millions of customers across the heart of the UK. Our purpose is to take care of one of life’s essentials, and we do this by providing clean water, safe wastewater services and developing renewable energy solutions.

We are now looking for a Head of Capital Commercial to join our Capital Delivery leadership team, leading the commercial strategy behind one of the UK’s largest infrastructure investment programmes.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Severn Trent is entering a transformative period of investment. Over the next five years, we will deliver more than £6 billion of capital investment, focused on enhancing resilience, protecting the environment, improving customer outcomes and supporting sustainable economic growth across our region.

Looking further ahead, Severn Trent is also launching a new generation of capital design and delivery frameworks worth up to £25 billion over the next 8 to 15 years, which will become the primary delivery vehicle for major capital programmes across AMP9, AMP10 and AMP11.

For the incoming Head of Capital Commercial, this is a rare opportunity to shape the commercial model that will underpin billions of pounds of investment, strengthen strategic supplier partnerships and help deliver one of the most significant water and wastewater infrastructure programmes in the UK.

This role will play a key part in creating a long-term platform for collaboration, innovation and value creation across the Midlands, working with major contractors, specialist partners and regional suppliers to deliver better outcomes for customers, communities and the environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

Reporting to the Capital Delivery Director, you'll lead Severn Trent's Capital Commercial function, setting the commercial strategy and overseeing the commercial performance, governance and risk management of our £6bn+ capital programme.

Working alongside Strategic Leaders across Design, Delivery, Engineering and Programme Management, you'll play a key role in the successful delivery of AMP8 investment.

You'll

  • Define and deliver the commercial strategy for Severn Trent's capital investment programme, ensuring long-term value, regulatory compliance and successful business outcomes.
  • Lead commercial governance, risk, assurance and performance across the capital portfolio.
  • Develop commercial frameworks, delivery models and supplier partnerships that drive efficiency, innovation and long-term capability.
  • Shape the future direction, operating model and capability of the Capital Commercial function.
  • Provide commercial leadership on major investment decisions, balancing value, affordability, risk, customer outcomes and asset performance.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers, industry partners and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate across Capital Delivery and the wider business to align commercial priorities with operational and strategic objectives.
  • Lead a team of c.100 commercial professionals across Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Contract Management, Cost Management and Commercial Assurance.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
