Head of Casualty – Build a New Practice with Genuine Ownership Economics
£100k-£150k
London Market | Start-up Practice | Exceptional Upside
An established specialist underwriting platform is launching a new Casualty practice and is looking for an ambitious underwriting leader to build it from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity to shape a book from day one, with the backing of an experienced business and a remuneration model that rewards you directly for the success of what you create.
The Opportunity
Casualty is a strategic priority for the business, and this hire will set the direction for the entire line. You'll define the underwriting strategy and appetite, build and lead the team, and work closely with capacity providers to grow a profitable, sustainable portfolio. The business views this as a five-year journey and is looking for someone who wants to build something meaningful rather than inherit an existing book.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
