🧑‍⚕️ The Head of Clinical Innovation Role

As Head of Clinical Innovation, you’ll driveDoccla’s clinical vision, ensuring our products and pathways remain safe, evidence-based, and commercially impactful. This is a senior leadership role under the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), interfacing closely with:

  • Chief Product Officer (CPO)
  • Commercial pathway leads
  • External NHS partners

Key Responsibilities

🔬 CLIENT AND PATHWAY DEVELOPMENT

  • Lead clinical input into product development priorities, including AI-enabled features, real-time patient monitoring devices, and internal operational tools.
  • Provide clinical sign-off for new and updated features, ensuring alignment with Doccla’s clinical model and patient safety standards.
  • Oversee DCB0129/DCB0160 compliance in partnership with the Clinical Safety Officer, including ongoing risk assessments and maintenance of the Hazard Log.

📊 EVIDENCE GENERATION & MDR COMPLIANCE

  • Support Doccla’s EU MDR evidence strategy by contributing to Clinical Evaluation Protocols (CEP) and Clinical Evaluation Reports (CER).
  • Clinical sign-off for all MDR documentation, ensuring compliance with EU MDR Article 61 and guidance.
  • Help develop NICE EVA (ARI) submissions, ensuring our acute respiratory remote monitoring platforms meet quality standards.

🚨 INCIDENT MANAGEMENT & CLINICAL RISK (PRODUCT-FOCUSED)

  • Lead the clinical incident management process for product-related and device-related incidents, working with regulatory and quality teams to investigate and mitigate issues.
  • Maintain oversight of product-related risks recorded in the organisational Risk Register, in collaboration with the Clinical Governance Manager.
  • Provide clinical leadership for relevant safety alerts (e.g., MHRA device notifications).

📈 COMMERCIAL LEADERSHIP FOR PATHWAY DEVELOPMENT

  • Design and deliver proactive care pathways within commercial and regulatory frameworks.
  • Work with bid development teams, especially when pathway evidence is critical for proposals.
  • Advise on NHS client engagement, ensuring commissioner expectations are met.

✅ What We’re Looking For

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years as a certified General Practitioner (GP) in the UK, with an active license to practice.
  • Proven experience in digital health, medtech, or NHS clinical informatics.
  • In-depth knowledge of MHRA/EU MDR, DCB0129/DCB0160, and clinical safety frameworks.
  • Track record in clinical product development within a regulated environment (e.g., medical device/mhealth).
  • Ability to synthesise clinical evidence into actionable product and pathway decisions.
  • Comfort operating at the junction of clinical, commercial, and technical domains.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in CER/CEP production or NICE submission processes.
  • Familiarity with remote patient monitoring (RPM), virtual wards, or proactive care models.
  • Hands-on experience working with NHS trusts in a vendor or partnership capacity.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in clinical leadership, health informatics, or medical education.
