Role Summary
We are looking for a Head of Clinical to act as Rapid Health’s clinical authority, accountable for the clinical standards, professional judgement and approval that govern our clinical pathways and clinically material changes to Smart Triage.
This is a part-time senior leadership role for an experienced and ideally practising clinician who can set clinical standards, exercise sound clinical judgement and provide clear governance as Rapid Health continues to scale.
A key part of the role will be shaping the next generation of Rapid Health’s clinical pathway model. As pathway development becomes increasingly supported by AI for evidence review, structured drafting, comparison and assurance, the Head of Clinical will define the clinical control points, apply professional clinical judgement and provide final internal clinical sign-off while ensuring accountable human judgement remains embedded in the process.
You’ll work closely with Clinical Product, Technology, Operations and Customer Success, ensuring clinical evidence and decisions are clear, timely and traceable from pathway development through release and post-market learning. Clinical Product team brings customer, pathway, operational and live-use evidence into the process; the Head of Clinical provides the senior professional clinical judgement, clinical design input and clinical sign-off at defined decision points.

What you’ll be responsible for
Clinical governance and standards
- Own the clinical standards, principles and professional clinical judgement that apply across assigned products and pathway model.
- Apply the agreed clinical review, validation and approval process for new pathways, material pathway changes and clinically significant product changes, contributing to its ongoing development and improvement as the model evolves.
- Provide final internal clinical approval for new pathways and clinical material pathway or product changes at the defined approval points.
Clinical safety and risk
- Provide senior clinical oversight of patient-safety and clinical-risk matters and assume the Clinical Safety Officer responsibilities where formally appointed.
- Ensure relevant hazards, clinical risks, incidents and post-market signals are reflected in clinical decision-making.
Clinical pathways
- Lead the clinical design and development of new pathways and material pathway changes, working closely with the Clinical Product team.
- Own the final internal clinical sign-off of pathway design and clinically material exceptions, informed by relevant clinical, customer, operational and external evidence.
- Set the standards against which pathway quality, safety and real-world plausibility are assessed.
Clinical development tooling
- Define the clinical governance approach for new tooling, including evidence review, pathway drafting, comparison and assurance.
- Validate clinically material tooling outputs.
- Work with Clinical Product, Product and Technology to optimise pathway design, build and assurance effort without weakening clinical control.
Product and release input
- Provide senior clinical input into Product priorities and release-readiness decisions where changes have a clinical consequence.
- Resolve clinical questions early enough to avoid unnecessary late-stage rework or ambiguity for Product and Technology.
- Support clear clinical release criteria and provide clinical sign-off for changes with clinical consequence where required.

Evidence, QMS and post-market learning
- Own the clinical assessment and resolution of PMS matters for assigned products, including determining the clinical significance, required clinical action and whether pathway review or reapproval is needed.
- Review material customer, patient, external clinical review or safety evidence and determine whether clinical action or pathway review or reapproval is required.
- Support traceability from clinical evidence and rationale through change, approval and release.
External clinical leadership
- Represent Rapid Health clinically with NHS stakeholders, customers, partners and external bodies where senior clinical authority is required.
- Support clinically accurate education, evidence discussion and strategic engagement within agreed company positioning.
Ideal profile
Senior practising clinician with relevant NHS primary-care or closely related clinical experience. GP or nursing backgrounds are particularly relevant. Able to commit regular capacity to the role alongside ongoing clinical practice; anticipated at approximately 2–3 days per week.
- Strong understanding of NHS primary care, clinical pathways and patient-safety considerations.
- Experience in clinical safety, digital health, medical devices, regulated software or a comparable governance environment.
- Experience reviewing evidence and translating clinical judgement into clear product or operational decisions.
- Good understanding of clinical risk management and the role of traceable rationale, approvals and change control.
- Comfortable with AI-enabled clinical workflows and the distinction between machine-supported analysis and accountable human approval.
- Strong communicator with credibility across clinicians, executives, engineers and NHS stakeholders.
- Commercially aware and able to understand the wider business consequence of clinical decisions without compromising professional judgement.
