Head of Cloud Platform Engineering | AWS | Fully Remote

I’m currently working on an exciting opportunity for a hands-on Head of Cloud Platform Engineering to take ownership of a critical AWS cloud estate supporting technology at national scale.

This is a role for someone who enjoys being both the technical leader and the engineer. You’ll have the opportunity to shape cloud architecture, lead a high-calibre platform team and influence the wider engineering strategy — while still getting hands-on with the technology.

The Role

You’ll take ownership of:

  • AWS cloud architecture and platform engineering
  • Cloud-native infrastructure and open-source technologies
  • Kubernetes & Infrastructure as Code
  • Terraform and CI/CD
  • Cloud security, IAM and compliance
  • FinOps and cloud cost optimisation
  • High availability, resilience & disaster recovery
  • Observability, incident management & SRE practices
  • Technical standards and engineering guardrails
  • Building and developing a small platform engineering team

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The environment supports critical energy and smart-metering infrastructure, so reliability, security, scalability and operational excellence are fundamental to the role.

What I'm Looking For

I'm particularly interested in speaking with people who have:

  • Deep, hands-on AWS experience
  • Strong cloud/platform engineering experience
  • Excellent Terraform / IaC skills
  • Kubernetes experience
  • Strong CI/CD knowledge
  • Experience designing highly available, production-scale platforms
  • Cloud security & IAM experience
  • FinOps / cloud cost optimisation experience
  • Experience with incident management and SRE practices
  • Previous technical leadership or team management experience

Energy/utilities experience would be highly advantageous, particularly experience within a regulated or critical-infrastructure environment.

The Key Thing

This isn't a role for someone who has moved completely away from engineering. I'm looking for someone who can comfortably move between:

  • Strategic leadership
  • Architecture
  • Team leadership
  • Keyboard time

Someone who can speak to senior stakeholders about the future of the platform in the morning and then get hands-on with AWS, Terraform or Kubernetes when required.
