Shape the Future of National Security Through World-Class Commercial Leadership

At Babcock we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as the Head of Commercial at our Devonport Royal Dockyard site.

The Role

As the Head of Commercial, you’ll take a leading role in supporting our Major Infrastructure Project (MIP) portfolio within the Major Nuclear Capital Programmes (MNCP) Commercial team. This is an opportunity to make an impact at national scale, shaping commercial strategy on complex Ministry of Defence programmes that play a critical part in UK defence, engineering and infrastructure.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Leading the planning and delivery of multiple construction-focused contracts across major defence infrastructure programmes
  • Acting as an escalation point for complex or high-risk commercial issues while coordinating legal advice where required
  • Developing and managing robust commercial strategies, including NEC4 contracts and pricing models, supported by your strong understanding of risk
  • Building positive relationships with suppliers, internal teams and clients to negotiate terms, scope and pricing effectively
  • Overseeing complex contract administration, change control, evidence gathering, pre-tender estimates, cost planning, subcontract reviews, in line with robust commercial governance

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
