A large public sector organisation is currently recruiting for an interim Head of Commercial (Corporate) to join their Commercial Services function on an initial 12-month contract.
The role is based in London and offers hybrid working with a requirement of 3 days of office attendance per week. The rate for this role will be between £650 - £800 per day umbrella.
This is a senior leadership opportunity within a large and complex organisation, responsible for providing strategic commercial leadership across a diverse portfolio of corporate and professional services spend.
The successful candidate will lead complex procurement programmes, develop category strategies, manage key supplier relationships and partner with senior stakeholders to deliver value-for-money outcomes.
The Ideal Candidate
You will be an experienced commercial or procurement leader with a strong track record of delivering complex, high-value procurement projects and commercial strategies. You will be comfortable operating at a senior level, influencing stakeholders across a large organisation and balancing strategic priorities with operational delivery.

You will possess excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills, coupled with strong commercial acumen and the ability to lead and develop high-performing teams. Experience within the public sector or another highly regulated environment would be highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Lead the development and delivery of category strategies aligned to organisational objectives.
- Manage complex and high-value procurement programmes from strategy through to contract award.
- Provide expert commercial advice and assurance to senior stakeholders and governance forums.
- Develop strong relationships with directors and senior leaders across the organisation.
- Drive supplier performance, innovation and continuous improvement across key contracts.
- Identify and manage commercial, contractual and supplier-related risks.
- Lead, coach and develop a team of commercial professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.
- Ensure compliance with procurement legislation, governance requirements and organisational policies.

Skills and Experience
- Significant experience in a senior commercial, procurement or category management role.
- Demonstrable experience delivering complex, high-value procurement projects and commercial outcomes.
- Proven success developing and implementing category strategies.
- Strong commercial negotiation and supplier management expertise.
- Experience influencing and partnering with executive and senior stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of public sector procurement principles, governance and risk management.
- Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills.
- Experience leading, developing and motivating high-performing teams.
- Ability to operate effectively within a complex and fast-paced environment.
- A track record of delivering measurable value, efficiencies and commercial outcomes.
