The Role

You’re the last line before the lights go on.

As Head of Commissioning, you’ll own commissioning on extra-high-voltage substations and underground cable circuits from 11kV to 400kV. You’re the technical authority and single point of accountability across multiple projects in data centres, renewables and industrial & commercial connections.

You’ll lead a team of commissioning engineers, shape the commissioning plan from design through to handover, and deliver systems that are safe, on programme and ready for energisation.

What You’ll Do

  • Own it. Lead commissioning across multiple new connection and infrastructure projects, from design development to final handover.
  • Plan it. Define the commissioning strategy for 11kV to 400kV projects and build plans that fit within the project programme.
  • Back it. Be the senior technical authority, resolve on-site issues, and be the first call for internal teams, clients, and network operators.
  • Grow the team. Set objectives, manage performance and build development pathways for your commissioning engineers.
  • Keep it safe. Hold subcontractors and supply chain partners to our SHEQ procedures, the Distribution Safety Rules and CDM regulations.
  • Join it up. Support FAT and SAT, work with the Engineering Standards team, and give technical input to bids and tenders.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
