Location: Watford /North London | Hybrid | Regular UK travel to locations across the UK.

Turner Lovell is recruiting a Head of Commissioning for a UK utility infrastructure contractor delivering power connections for data centres, renewables and industrial projects.
Reporting to the Engineering Director, you’ll take ownership of commissioning across 11kV–132kV substations and cable circuits for various private connections and DNO new build substations across the UK. There is the expectation that transmission projects will grow meaning the commissioning of 275kV and 400kV substations. You’ll have the authority to set technical standards, develop the function and guide projects through to energisation.

This is a newly created role, offering a genuine opportunity to build something from the ground up. You’ll shape the commissioning function, establish standards and processes, and have the opportunity to recruit and lead a high-performing commissioning team as the business continues to grow.
Your role
- Build, lead and develop commissioning engineers and specialist subcontractors across multiple projects.
- Establish and maintain technical standards, processes and best practice across the commissioning function.
- Lead commissioning from design reviews through testing, energisation and handover.
- Set commissioning plans, resolve technical issues and coordinate with clients and network operators.
- Deliver safely, on programme and within budget.

Your background
- A track record of leading commissioning teams within a DNO, TSO or ICP.
- At least five years of UK experience as a Commissioning Engineer or Senior Authorised Person, covering 11kV–132kV.
- Strong knowledge of HV plant, cables and protection & control, plus Distribution Safety Rules, G81 standards and NERS requirements.
- HNC or equivalent in Electrical or Civil Engineering, a full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
- Transmission and 400kV experience is an advantage.
