A charity based in Central London is currently recruiting for an interim Head of Communications to join the organisation on a 6-month contract.
This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the reputation, profile, and strategic communications of one of London's largest and most influential charitable funders.
It will be offered for £500 - £550 per day umbrella and they have hybrid working available with 3 days on site per week.
Reporting to the Managing Director and working closely with the Executive Leadership Team, the Head of Communications will provide strategic leadership across all internal and external communications activity, ensuring the organisation's mission, vision, and impact are clearly articulated to stakeholders, partners, funders, and the public.
This is a highly visible leadership position responsible for developing and delivering the organisation's communications strategy, strengthening brand positioning, enhancing stakeholder engagement, and promoting their work as a world-class charitable funder and responsible civic leader.
The successful candidate will act as a trusted adviser to senior leaders, represent the organisation externally as a spokesperson and ambassador, and lead a high-performing communications function that supports both strategic priorities and organisational reputation.
The Ideal Candidate
You will be an experienced communications leader with a proven track record of developing and delivering strategic communications strategies within a complex organisation, public body, charity, or similarly high-profile stakeholder environment.
You will be comfortable operating at the executive level, providing strategic advice to senior leaders and boards, while managing communications across a broad range of audiences and channels. Experience of stakeholder engagement at political, civic, or public affairs level would be highly advantageous.

You will possess exceptional communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills, together with the ability to manage reputation, respond to sensitive issues, and develop impactful communications campaigns that support organisational objectives.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Lead the development and implementation of the communications strategy, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives.
- Drive the organisation's brand positioning, profile, and reputation across London, the UK, and wider stakeholder communities.
- Provide strategic oversight of all internal and external communications activity.
- Act as a senior communications adviser to the Executive Leadership Team and other key stakeholders.
- Lead strategic communications activity supporting charitable funding programmes, initiatives, and organisational impact.
- Oversee the development and continuous improvement of the organisation's website and digital presence.
- Develop and deliver communications campaigns, events, and engagement programmes that enhance awareness and reputation.
- Lead the production of publications, communications materials, and multimedia content.
- Build and maintain influential relationships with policymakers, charitable organisations, funders, partners, and other key stakeholders.
- Represent the organisation externally as an advocate, ambassador, and spokesperson.
- Lead, develop, and inspire the Communications and Engagement Team to deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Manage communications budgets and ensure compliance with organisational governance and financial requirements.
- Prepare and present communications updates and reports to boards, committees, and senior stakeholders as required.

Skills and Experience
- Significant experience in a senior communications leadership role within a charity, public sector body, or similarly complex organisation.
- Demonstrable experience developing and implementing organisation-wide communications strategies.
- Proven experience managing media relations, marketing, public relations, digital communications, and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Extensive experience acting as an organisational spokesperson and representative.
- Experience providing strategic communications advice to executive teams, boards, and senior leaders.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including engagement with political, civic, and external partners.
- Proven leadership experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
- Experience of budget management and financial accountability.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to influence at senior levels.
- Strong understanding of digital communications, websites, social media, and content development.
- Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and experience embedding these principles within organisational culture and communications.
- Educated to degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent skills, knowledge, and experience.
