Head of Compliance - Temporary Assignment
We’re working in partnership with a well-established and values-driven education organisation based in South Staffordshire to recruit an experienced Head of Compliance on a temporary assignment running until the end of July.
This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of a stand-alone compliance function and make an immediate impact by providing leadership, assurance and expert guidance to senior leaders and governors on regulatory, statutory and legal requirements.
This is a stand-alone role working part time 2-3 days per week, with full remote working options considered, the rate is negotiable with term-time-only options considered. The assignment runs until the end of July.
Duties
- Leading and overseeing the organisation’s compliance framework, ensuring adherence to all relevant education legislation, regulatory requirements, funding conditions and statutory guidance
- Maintaining and regularly auditing the school/college website to ensure all mandatory information is accurate, accessible and compliant with regulatory requirements
- Managing and monitoring the Get Information About Schools (GIAS) record, ensuring all organisational, governance, workforce and contact information is accurate and up to date
- Conducting regular compliance audits to identify missing, expired or outdated policies and procedures, coordinating reviews and updates with relevant stakeholders
- Developing, maintaining and overseeing a central compliance calendar, ensuring statutory returns, policy reviews, staff training and regulatory deadlines are completed on time
- Providing expert advice and guidance to senior leaders and governors on compliance risks, regulatory changes and best practice, producing reports and recommendations where required
- Leading on safeguarding compliance, ensuring policies, procedures, training records, DBS checks and Single Central Record requirements are maintained in line with statutory expectations
- Monitoring organisational compliance across key areas including Health and Safety, Data Protection (GDPR), Equality and Diversity, Risk Management, Prevent, Freedom of Information and staff mandatory training, implementing corrective actions where gaps are identified

Experience Required
- Proven experience in a compliance, governance or regulatory role
- Work within a school, college or wider education setting highly desired
- Experience of GIAS, website compliance and data protection (GDPR) requirements
- Confidence advising and influencing senior leaders and governors, with the ability to produce clear reports and recommendations
- Excellent organisation, audit, documentation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work independently in a stand-alone role
