I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
The person
This search is deliberately targeted. Direct senior compliance experience gained within an FCA-regulated claims management company or marketing and client acquisition agency for law firms is essential — applications from broader financial-services compliance backgrounds without this specific experience will not be suitable and will not be considered.
You will bring:
- A strong, current working knowledge of the FCA regulatory framework applicable to claims management, including CMCOB, Consumer Duty, SYSC, DISP, SM&CR and regulatory reporting/engagement.
- Proven expertise in compliant customer acquisition, advertising and financial promotions, including digital channels, lead generation and live-campaign oversight.
- Practical knowledge of UK GDPR, PECR and data-sharing/direct-marketing requirements.
- Experience working closely with claimant law firms and an understanding of the legal-services and referral environment.
- A demonstrable ability to influence senior stakeholders, challenge constructively and stop or remediate activity where standards are not met.
- A hands-on, organised and delivery-focused approach, with sound judgement, discretion and strong written communication.
- Experience in high-volume consumer claims, regulated financial-services claims, personal injury, litigation funding or related claimant-acquisition models would be particularly valuable. Previous SMF16 or equivalent senior compliance responsibility is desirable, but not essential.
