Head of Computational Biology
A leading life sciences organisation in Cambridge is looking to appoint an experienced Head of Computational Biology to lead and develop its computational biology capability.
This is an exciting opportunity for an established computational biology leader to take a strategic role in a highly collaborative scientific environment, working at the interface of computational biology, genomics, data science, and drug discovery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a high-performing computational biology team.
- Set the strategic direction for computational biology across the organisation.
- Apply computational approaches to complex biological and therapeutic questions.
- Work closely with experimental biology, bioinformatics, data science, and drug discovery teams.
- Drive the analysis and interpretation of genomic, transcriptomic, single-cell, and multi-omics datasets.
- Identify and implement emerging approaches in machine learning, AI, and computational biology.
- Build robust, scalable, and reproducible computational workflows.
- Establish external collaborations with academic and industry partners.
- Communicate computational insights and scientific strategy to senior stakeholders.

About You
We are looking for a senior computational biology professional with a strong scientific background and proven leadership experience.

- A PhD or equivalent experience in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics, systems biology, or a related discipline.
- Significant industry or academic experience in computational biology.
- Experience leading and developing scientific teams.
- Strong expertise in genomics, transcriptomics, single-cell, multi-omics, or related computational biology approaches.
- Experience using programming and data-analysis tools such as Python or R.
- An understanding of machine learning and AI applications in biological research.
- A track record of delivering computational insights that influence scientific decision-making.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
