About The Role & Company
A well-established and highly respected Design & Build commercial fit-out company is seeking an experienced Head of Construction to take full ownership of construction operations across the business. This role sits at leadership level, responsible for strategic oversight of project delivery, operational performance, and the management and development of all permanent construction staff.
You will work closely with the board and senior leadership team to shape delivery strategy, strengthen operational capability, and ensure the consistent, high-quality execution of projects across London and the South East. This is a pivotal position for an individual with proven Director-level influence and the ability to lead a large, multi-disciplinary construction function.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership across all construction operations, ensuring alignment with business objectives and growth plans
- Oversee the end-to-end delivery of all projects, ensuring safety, quality, programme, and client satisfaction targets are consistently met
- Lead, manage, and develop all permanent construction staff, including Project Directors, Project Managers, Site Managers, and operational support teams
- Establish and maintain best-practice operational processes, driving consistency and excellence across all live sites
- Work collaboratively with Pre-Construction, Commercial, and Design Directors to ensure buildability, programme accuracy, and cost alignment
- Oversee resource planning, project sequencing, logistics strategy, and workforce allocation across multiple concurrent projects
- Champion a strong health & safety culture, ensuring compliance with company policies and statutory regulations
- Identify operational risks, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement across the construction function
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders
- Lead senior-level operations meetings, reporting on delivery performance, staffing, risks, and strategic priorities
- Support recruitment, succession planning, and long-term development of the construction team
- Contribute to board-level discussions, business planning, and strategic decision-making

Experience & Requirements
- Proven experience operating at Head of Construction, Construction Director, Operations Director, or equivalent leadership level
- Strong background in Design & Build commercial fit-out, ideally with exposure to high-value, fast-paced London projects
- Demonstrable experience leading large, multi-site construction teams
- Deep understanding of construction methodology, M&E integration, and fit-out delivery processes
- Strong operational leadership skills with the ability to drive efficiency, consistency, and high performance
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with board-level gravitas
- Highly organised, proactive, and solutions-focused
- Strong knowledge of health & safety legislation and compliance
- SMSTS, First Aid, and relevant construction qualifications preferred
