Head of Control

SALARY: £116,535 - £137,100

LOCATION(S): Halifax

HOURS: Full time

WORKING PATTERN: Hybrid, 40% (or two days) in one of the above office locations

About this opportunity

We're looking for an experienced technology risk and control leader to help shape the future of our control environment!

As Head of Control, you'll play a critical role in helping us rethink how risk and control operate within a modern technology organisation. Rather than relying on traditional, retrospective controls, you'll help design and embed automated, preventative and real-time controls that support safe, resilient and efficient delivery across our technology landscape!

Working at the intersection of Technology, Engineering, Data, AI and Risk, you'll partner with senior leaders to ensure controls are embedded into products, platforms and processes from the outset. You'll help shape the evolution of our control environment as we continue our journey towards cloud-native technologies, AI-enabled services and modern engineering practices.

We're looking for someone who combines deep technical risk and control expertise with strong communication and collaborator management skills. You'll be equally comfortable discussing control automation with engineering teams, influencing senior technology leaders and helping the business understand how effective controls can support innovation and growth.

This is a highly visible leadership role with the opportunity to influence strategy, drive meaningful change at scale and lead a high-performing team across one of the UK's largest and most complex technology environments.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading the development of a modern first-line control environment aligned to technology, engineering and product delivery practices.
  • Embedding control-by-design principles across architecture, software engineering, cloud platforms and technology transformation programmes.
  • Driving the adoption of automated, preventative and real-time controls that improve resilience, reduce manual intervention and support faster delivery.
  • Partnering with Technology, Data and AI teams to ensure control frameworks remain effective as new technologies and capabilities are adopted.
  • Supporting large-scale technology modernisation, including cloud adoption, platform transformation and migration from legacy environments.
  • Using data, analytics and insight-led monitoring to improve control effectiveness and support proactive risk management.
  • Simplifying, standardising and future-proofing controls while maintaining strong governance and risk outcomes.
  • Partnering with CIOs, Platform Leaders, Engineering Leads and business collaborators to influence decision-making and strengthen control outcomes.
  • Leading, developing and inspiring a high-performing Control Office team.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
