Head of Conveyancing Birkenhead

We are looking for an experienced Head of Conveyancing to lead an established residential property team based in Birkenhead.

This is a senior opportunity for an experienced conveyancing professional who can combine strong technical expertise with effective leadership and operational management.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the performance and development of the conveyancing function, while continuing to provide a high standard of service to clients and supporting the wider team.

The Role

As Head of Conveyancing, you will oversee the day-to-day operation of the department and provide leadership to fee earners, conveyancers, and support staff.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and managing the conveyancing department
  • Overseeing a varied residential conveyancing caseload
  • Supporting fee earners with complex or high-value matters where required
  • Monitoring departmental performance, productivity, and completion levels
  • Ensuring matters are progressed efficiently from instruction through to completion
  • Providing technical guidance and support to members of the team
  • Reviewing processes and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency
  • Managing workloads and allocating files appropriately
  • Supporting recruitment, training, development, and performance management
  • Maintaining high standards of client care and service delivery
  • Monitoring compliance, risk, and regulatory requirements
  • Handling escalated client or transaction issues
  • Working with senior management on departmental strategy and objectives
  • Reviewing KPIs and producing relevant management information
  • Encouraging a positive, collaborative, and high-performing team culture
  • Liaising with other departments and external stakeholders as required

About You

We're looking for a senior conveyancing professional with substantial experience and proven leadership capability.

You should have:

  • Significant experience within residential conveyancing
  • Previous management or departmental leadership experience
  • Strong technical knowledge of the conveyancing process
  • Experience overseeing a team of fee earners and support staff
  • Proven ability to manage performance, workloads, and deadlines
  • Excellent understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management abilities
  • Strong organizational and operational skills
  • A commercial and client-focused approach
  • The ability to lead by example while supporting and developing others

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an experienced conveyancing leader who understands both the technical and commercial sides of running a successful property department.

You'll be confident making decisions, supporting your team, and implementing processes that improve efficiency and client service. You'll also be comfortable stepping into complex matters and providing technical guidance when required.

This role would suit an experienced Head of Conveyancing, Conveyancing Manager, Department Head, or senior fee earner ready to take the next step into departmental leadership.
