Head of Conveyancing Legal Practice

Our client is seeking a Head of Conveyancing Legal Practice to lead the legal function, fulfil the statutory responsibilities of the role, and oversee legal quality, governance, compliance and risk across the business.

This is a senior leadership position combining regulatory oversight with people leadership, process improvement and a strong focus on client service. Working closely with the Managing Director, you will help shape the continued growth and development of the legal function, while building strong relationships with clients and referrers and maintaining the high standards expected by the firm, its partners and regulator.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the firm’s legal practice, governance, compliance and regulatory risk.
  • Ensure compliance with CLC/SRA requirements, AML, sanctions, fraud prevention, lender panels and cybersecurity.
  • Supervise legal teams and maintain high standards of technical quality and client care.
  • Oversee file audits, complaints, risk management and regulatory reporting.
  • Provide guidance on complex and high-risk residential conveyancing matters.
  • Lead, mentor and develop the legal team.
  • Work with the Managing Director to improve processes, technology, efficiency and performance.
  • Manage escalated client issues and protect the firm’s reputation.

Essential Experience

  • 5+ years’ post-qualification experience as a Licensed Conveyancer, Solicitor or FCILEx
  • Proven experience supervising legal professionals and managing compliance and regulatory risk.
  • Strong technical, commercial, leadership and communication skills.
  • High levels of integrity, judgement and professionalism.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous Head of Legal Practice experience.
  • Experience with CLC regulatory reviews, investigations, complaints or negligence claims.
  • Lender panel management experience.
  • Experience implementing legal technology, automation or AI.
  • Strong operational and process improvement experience.
