Mace combines construction expertise with consultancy to unlock potential in every person or project and redefine the boundaries of ambition. Our values shape the way we consult and define the people we want to join us on our journey.

The Role

The Head of Data Engineering and Analytics leads the engineering, analytics, and business intelligence capability that turns enterprise data strategy into reliable, scalable delivery. Reporting to the Global Head of Data, the role is accountable for building and operating trusted data platforms, pipelines, models, and analytics products that support operational decision-making, client services, digital products, automation, and AI. The role combines technical leadership with strong business engagement, establishing common engineering standards, prioritising demand, and building a high-performing, globally distributed delivery capability.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Managing the design, development, operation, and continuous improvement of the organisation’s data platform, data warehouse, integration pipelines, semantic models, reporting, and analytics services.
  • Translating the global data strategy and target architecture into an executable engineering and analytics roadmap, aligned with business priorities and measurable value.
  • Establishing and enforcing engineering standards covering solution design, coding, testing, release management, observability, documentation, resilience, security, and cost efficiency.
  • Creating trusted, reusable data products and common datasets that reduce duplication and support consistent enterprise reporting, client insight, digital services, and AI-ready use cases.
  • Owning the intake, prioritisation, and delivery of engineering, BI, and analytics demand, balancing strategic change, project delivery, and business-as-usual requirements.
  • Partnering with Data Governance, Enterprise Architecture, Cyber Security, Digital Product, IT Operations, and business leaders to embed quality, lineage, access controls, privacy, retention, and regulatory requirements by design.
  • Managing, developing, and organising a high-performing team of data engineers, BI developers, analysts, and delivery partners, using an effective right-shored operating model.
  • Managing strategic suppliers and technology partners, ensuring clear accountability for quality, pace, service performance, knowledge transfer, and value for money.
  • Acting as the senior technical authority for data engineering and analytics, providing clear advice, resolving delivery blockers, and communicating complex topics credibly to senior stakeholders.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
