Head of Data Engineering – Azure / Microsoft Fabric

£90,000–£100,000 | Mainly remote | Up to four days on-site per month

This is a Head of Data Engineering opportunity for a large, growing organisation that is making a significant investment in its data platform and engineering capability.

This person will lead a high-profile Microsoft Fabric programme, managing a team of approximately five to six permanent and contract data engineers. The programme has strong visibility across the organisation, so the role needs someone who can combine credible technical leadership with confident communication at board and investor level.

You will take ownership of the data engineering strategy, programme delivery, technical standards, architecture, platform reliability, suppliers, team recruitment and future capacity planning. You will also work closely with senior stakeholders to turn business priorities into a clear and achievable engineering roadmap.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

This is a leadership role, but you’ll remain close enough to the technology to review designs, challenge architecture decisions and support the team with complex delivery issues.

The environment includes:

  • Microsoft Fabric and the wider Azure data platform
  • Python, PySpark and SQL
  • Enterprise-scale datasets and complex source systems
  • Lakehouse, warehousing and data pipeline development
  • CI/CD, testing, monitoring and engineering standards
  • Data governance, quality, security and platform reliability
  • A mixture of internal engineers, contractors and external suppliers

Previous Microsoft Fabric experience would be useful but is not essential. You will need a strong Azure data engineering background and enough technical depth to lead experienced engineers, challenge decisions and set appropriate standards.
