Head of Data Engineering
Location: London
Contract: 9 months
Day Rate: £575/day
Work Mode: Hybrid - 2 days in office
I'm currently looking for an experienced Head of Data Engineering/Data Engineering Leader to lead an enterprise data engineering function and drive the delivery and operationalisation of a modern Microsoft Fabric data platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the enterprise Microsoft Fabric data engineering strategy and roadmap
- Drive implementation across OneLake, Lakehouses, Warehouses, Pipelines, Dataflows Gen2 and Spark
- Establish modern medallion architecture – Bronze, Silver & Gold
- Lead data engineering teams across development, testing, release and operations
- Implement CI/CD, Git/source control and DevOps practices
- Drive data governance, security, lineage and access controls
- Optimise Fabric workloads, performance and capacity/cost management
- Integrate data from multiple enterprise platforms and SaaS applications
- Establish sustainable BAU operating models, engineering cadence and ways of working
- Support knowledge transfer and ensure a smooth transition into the established operating model

What We're Looking For
- Senior-level Data Engineering/Data Platform leadership experience
- Strong Microsoft Fabric implementation experience
- Excellent Azure/cloud data engineering background
- Experience leading engineering teams and technical delivery
- Strong understanding of data architecture, modelling, and modern lakehouse patterns
- Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, and production platform operations
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Experience establishing or transitioning data platforms into BAU

Technology Environment
Microsoft Fabric | OneLake | Lakehouse | Data Warehouse | Data Pipelines | Dataflows Gen2 | Spark/PySpark | KQL | Power BI | Microsoft Purview | Entra ID | Azure | Git | CI/CD
Experience integrating enterprise applications such as Salesforce, ERP, HR, Finance, and other SaaS platforms would be highly beneficial.
