Head of Debt Recovery

Location: Chester or Altrincham

Salary: Up to £85,000 DOE

A highly regarded regional law firm is looking to appoint an experienced Head of Debt Recovery to lead and develop its well-established Debt Recovery team within the Restructuring & Insolvency department.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced solicitor or debt recovery professional to take ownership of a successful team, combining technical expertise with strategic leadership. You will oversee a varied portfolio of debt recovery matters, drive operational performance, develop client relationships and play a key role in the continued growth of the department.

The Role

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading and supervising the debt recovery function from pre-action through to enforcement.
  • Developing and implementing effective recovery strategies to maximise client outcomes.
  • Monitoring team performance, recovery rates and KPIs.
  • Reviewing debtor financial positions and recommending commercially appropriate recovery action.
  • Overseeing litigation and enforcement matters, including:
    • County Court Claims
    • Statutory Demands
    • Winding Up Petitions
    • Bankruptcy Petitions
    • Charging Orders
    • Attachment of Earnings Orders
    • High Court Enforcement
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Managing, mentoring and developing members of the team.

About You

Applications are welcomed from candidates with:

  • Significant experience in debt recovery, litigation or insolvency.
  • Strong technical knowledge of debt recovery procedures and enforcement methods.
  • Previous experience leading or supervising a team.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and client relationship skills.
  • Strong communication and organisational abilities.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Previous law firm experience is desirable.
  • Experience using Debtrak would be advantageous but is not essential.
