The Role
Referment is working with an AI-native climate technology company that certifies carbon-removal projects, combining scientific rigour with software to help buyers make credible decisions. Its product turns complex, evidence-heavy audit work into a clearer workflow for technical and commercial users.
This is a senior, hands-on design leadership role with responsibility for product experience, design quality and the development of a small design team. You will set the direction while remaining close to the work, partnering with product and engineering on the core platform and helping the wider business communicate with consistency.
- Set the design vision, operating approach and quality bar across a complex B2B product, while continuing to produce high-quality work yourself.
- Take end-to-end responsibility for UX and UI, moving from early concepts and prototypes through shipped experiences and iteration.
- Design workflows that make dense certification and audit processes easier to understand and use, including AI-assisted product interactions.
- Build and lead a small, fast-moving design team, establishing practical delivery and review processes as it grows.
- Work closely with product and engineering colleagues to shape priorities, test ideas and maintain design quality through implementation.
- Guide the company’s broader visual expression across brand, commercial materials and other key touchpoints.

What We're Looking For
- Deep end-to-end product design experience, demonstrated through complex products taken from prototype to release and improved through iteration.
- Strong UX, interaction and visual design craft, with the ability to think in systems and services rather than isolated screens.
- A track record of building or leading small design teams and creating processes that support consistently strong delivery.
- The range to operate as a player-coach: setting direction, coaching others and handling important individual-contributor work.
- Practical experience using AI-enabled tools to improve the design process and product outcomes.
- Comfort working quickly through ambiguity and taking responsibility beyond a narrowly defined design remit.

Experience with technical products or B2B SaaS would be useful, but strong evidence of solving difficult product problems matters more than a particular sector background.
This could suit an experienced Head of Design, Design Director or senior product design leader who still wants substantial hands-on ownership and enjoys making complex systems feel clear.
