Head of Design – Ground Engineering
Working for a Ground Engineering specialist, Leading the Design team function from tender to delivery, supporting teams across the UK.
Location: Luton
Salary: £85,000 - £90,000 basic + Package
Role:
The Resolute Group have been retained to identify and secure a Head of Design for a Ground Engineering specialist who works across the UK. Supporting both clients and Tier 1 contractors in delivering sub-contractor packages around subsidence, land slippage, embankment stabilisation and bespoke groundwork packages.
The role is both leading a team of Engineers and the Technical assurance as the lead for the business. From the hands on design of the projects in developing the tender and bid, through to overseeing the design delivery. With both you and your team involved with the stakeholders for the client and Tier 1 contractors to ensure the work is delivered to the correct standards.

Your role responsibilities will change depending on your project portfolio but could include:
- Manage the UK-wide geotechnical Technical team.
- Mentor junior engineers to support career growth.
- Allocate engineering resources efficiently across active projects.
- Support in Producing hands-on designs for initial tender submissions.
- Develop technical bid proposals for Tier 1 contractors.
- Assess engineering risks during the pre-contract stage.
- Present innovative design solutions to win new work.
- Oversee design outputs from concept to final delivery.
- Act as the ultimate technical authority for the business.
- Review calculations for land slippage and subsidence solutions as required.
- Approve bespoke groundwork and embankment stabilisation schemes.
- Ensure compliance with Eurocodes and UK engineering standards.
- Consult closely with clients and Tier 1 contractors.
- Resolve complex technical queries during the construction phase.
- Liaise with internal project managers and delivery teams.

This role is a hybrid position but you need to be in an office 2-3 days a week, then 2-3 days a week from home. The office will depend on your working week as there may be Leadership, Frameworks, One to One meetings or other issues that may require your support.
Required Experience:
- Degree qualified Engineer be it Civil or Geotechnical
- Experience of working in Ground Engineering, ideal from a Design consultancy
- Driving license as flexibility is important to meet stakeholders as required.
