Responsible to: The Clerk, Chair of Stationers’ Hall Charity
Works with: Hall Charity Accountant, Trustees of Hall Charity, Hall Fund Raising Group
Contract: Self employed, two year contract
Location: Stationers’ Hall, London, EC4M 7DD
Hours: Expected 3 days per week (24 hrs per week)
Working pattern: Flexible working with some Weekday working, between 9 am and 5 pm business hours
Salary: £40k - £50k p.a. depending on experience (hourly rate)
KPIs: SMART objectives, with clear timelines and targets – to be set
The Organisation
The Stationers' Company is one of the ancient livery companies in the City of London dating back to 1403. We have a listed Hall and estate near St Paul’s Cathedral that was rebuilt in 1673 after the Fire of London. The Hall Charity exists to protect and preserve the Hall and its archive. Having completed a major building renovation project in 2022 (the Vision 350 campaign) our strategic focus is to secure a lasting endowment to protect Stationers' Hall for generations to come.
The Role
The Trustees of the Stationers’ Hall Charity seek a highly organised and dynamic Development professional to drive its fundraising strategy and secure the resources required to advance the objectives of the charity. The main objective is to secure the future of Stationers’ Hall, a Grade 1 listed building and scheduled monument. Key Responsibilities
Campaign Strategy
- Strategy: To develop, establish and drive a new fundraising function for the Stationers’ Hall Charity in line with the Charity’s 5-lever fundraising strategy.
- Case for Support: To develop, articulate and embed a compelling Case for Support, that aligns with the Charity’s objectives, specifically the preservation of the Grade 1 listed Hall and access to its historic archive
- Pipeline: Actively manage and collate the pipeline for major gifts, ensuring clear tracking from identification to solicitation.
- Regular Giving: Design and implement strategies to grow the volume and value of regular donations to the Hall Charity
- Collaboration: Cultivate prospects identified during the Vision 350 campaign and other avenues. Work alongside and provide active support to relevant Stationers who hold existing relationships with these donors
- Stewardship: Design and implement a robust, high quality stewarding process to ensure donors feel valued and informed about the impact of their giving
- Grants: To identify and apply for funding from relevant grant giving bodies
- Legacies: To oversee and develop a legacy programme, ensuring long-term financial stability through the cultivation of bequests and planned giving
Data, CRM and Compliance
- Database and Systems: Investigate the Company’s CRM database and financial systems to see if they can be used as the central hub for development activity and relationship mapping
- Governance and data protection: Ensure data integrity and compliance

Financial Management
- Budget Control and Investment: Supported by the Charity Accountant, oversee the core departmental budget and pitch proactively for supplementary funds to cover vital cultivation activities, clearly demonstrating the expected return on investment for these relationship-building events.
Membership Engagement and Stakeholder Management
- Engagement: Drive a model that encourages members to contribute their time and talent, as well as their treasure.
- Advisory Role: Act as the primary advisor to the Clerk, Hall Charity Trustees and Master of the Company on all development matters, providing regular pipeline updates and strategic insight.
Essential Skills and Attributes
A proactive self‑starter capable of establishing a new function from the ground up.
Comfortable working strategically while also undertaking hands‑on administrative and data tasks within a one‑person office.
Strong understanding of long‑term development strategy and the ability to articulate a compelling Case for Support.
Collaborative and diplomatic, with the ability to work alongside Liverymen and support peer‑to‑peer fundraising without dominating existing relationships.
Confident using CRM systems, with experience in prospect research, data management, and working within legitimate‑interest frameworks.
Financially literate, with experience in budget management and strict fund governance.
