How will you make an impact in this role?

Follow and encourage all members of the software department to adhere to the expected development standards across the core code base and expected development processes. Provide suggestions and improvements to coding standards and processes.

This role includes participation in an on-call Rota, providing 24/7 support coverage for a one-week period approximately every 5 to 6 weeks (subject to Rota size at any given time).

  • On-call allowance: A fixed additional payment is provided for each on-call week, compensating for your availability during that period.
  • Time Off in Lieu (TOIL): Where work is carried out significantly outside of standard working hours, TOIL will be accrued accordingly.

What We Expect of You, Day To Day

Development & Process

  • Implement and continuously refine Agile, Scrum, and Kanban methodologies to improve developer velocity.
  • Oversee and optimize development processes, identifying and implementing improvements as needed.
  • Align Jira workflows with delivery methodologies, implementing efficiencies where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Delivery team to adapt working methodologies to situational demand.
  • Uphold and facilitate agreed Agile ceremonies to support effective Sprint execution.
  • Enable development teams to achieve Sprint and project goals across multiple concurrent workstreams.

Mentorship

  • Coach and motivate Development Managers and Senior Developers to develop their team leadership skills and problem-solving abilities.

Culture

  • Help establish a culture of psychological safety where developers and testers feel comfortable taking risks and learning from failure.

Customer Interaction

  • Engage with customers and stakeholders to resolve issues and develop solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with customers across in-person and remote settings.
  • Represent the team in customer-facing ExCo and planning sessions.

Knowledge

  • Have a comprehensive understanding of Trust Retail's software products, and how they operate and interact.

Tech Stack

  • Collaborate with the Head of Technology to evaluate and define the technologies, frameworks, and languages adopted across the software department.
  • Partner with the Head of Technology in reviewing and approving high-level architectural decisions.

Hiring

  • Oversee the creation of job descriptions for both new and existing roles.
  • Lead the end-to-end hiring process for development resources, ensuring selection of the most qualified candidates.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years managing SaaS Development teams.
  • Experience in delivering cloud-based products.
  • Experience in managing large enterprise customer implementations.
  • People management experience in delivery and operation teams.
  • Understanding of Retail SaaS solutions – for example Inventory Management.
  • Strong stakeholder management.
  • Business and technical skills.
