Cynergy Bank | London (Hybrid: 3 days office / 2 days home)

12-Month Fixed-Term Contract | Up to £120,000 + Benefits

Lead the engineering teams building and evolving Cynergy Bank's digital platform.

The Opportunity

Cynergy Bank is investing heavily in its digital capabilities, cloud platform, and engineering function. We're looking for an experienced Head of Digital Engineering to lead one of our core engineering domains and help shape the technology that powers our customer experience and future growth.

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for driving delivery across customer-facing applications, digital services, and cloud-native platforms. You will lead engineering teams, develop technical capability, and help establish the engineering standards, practices, and culture required to scale effectively.

This is a senior leadership role, but one that requires strong technical credibility. Whilst you will not be expected to code day-to-day, you should be comfortable operating close to architecture, engineering design decisions, and technical delivery, with the ability to challenge, coach, and guide engineering teams when required.

You will work closely with Product, Architecture, Information Security, and senior stakeholders across the bank to ensure technology investments deliver meaningful customer and business outcomes.

Cynergy Bank combines the innovation and pace of a challenger with the responsibility of a regulated financial institution. Success in this role will require someone who enjoys working in a dynamic environment where priorities evolve, teams collaborate closely, and leaders are expected to take ownership, make decisions, and adapt quickly as the business grows.

This role is likely to suit someone who has thrived in a challenger bank, fintech, scale-up, or similarly agile environment. Whilst experience in larger organisations can be valuable, you'll need to be comfortable operating without the layers, structure, and specialisation often found in larger enterprises. Success here comes from being adaptable, commercially minded, and comfortable leading through ambiguity.

What You'll Be Responsible For

  • Leading engineering teams delivering digital platforms, applications, APIs, and cloud-native services
  • Managing and developing engineering managers, team leads, and senior engineers
  • Driving delivery outcomes, platform performance, resilience, and engineering quality
  • Providing technical leadership on architecture, engineering standards, and technology direction
  • Building a high-performing engineering culture focused on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Partnering with Product teams to align delivery with customer needs and strategic priorities
  • Driving adoption of modern engineering practices, DevOps principles, CI/CD, and automation
  • Identifying opportunities to leverage AI and automation to improve customer journeys and engineering efficiency
  • Working closely with Architecture, Risk, and Information Security to ensure secure and compliant delivery
  • Supporting engineering recruitment, capability development, succession planning, and career growth
  • Representing Engineering in wider business discussions and contributing to strategic decision-making

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
