Head of Design & Technology – Essex | January 2026 | Permanent, Full-Time

Salary: MPS/UPS + possible TLR (dependent on experience)

Quantum Scholars are proud to be working with a thriving and forward-thinking secondary school in Essex, who are seeking an ambitious and creative Head of Design & Technology to join their team from January 2026.

This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a well-established and collaborative department, where D&T plays a key role in inspiring creativity, problem-solving, and innovation. The department delivers an exciting curriculum across Food Technology, Graphics, Resistant Materials, and Textiles, supported by excellent facilities and a strong team spirit.

About The School

This inclusive, mixed secondary school and sixth form (11-18) has a fantastic sense of community and prides itself on being a place where staff and students feel valued, supported, and part of a wider family.

The Role

  • Lead and develop the strategic direction of the Design & Technology department
  • Inspire, support, and motivate a team of dedicated teachers
  • Oversee high-quality curriculum planning and delivery across all D&T specialisms
  • Champion innovative teaching practices that bring creativity and design to life
  • Ensure high standards of progress, engagement, and achievement at all key stages
  • Manage departmental resources and contribute to the school’s ongoing development

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent UK teaching qualification
  • Strong subject knowledge in at least one D&T specialism (Food, Graphics, Resistant Materials, or Textiles)
  • Proven track record of excellent classroom practice and student outcomes at KS3-KS5
  • Experience in middle leadership or departmental management (or ready to take that next step)
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
  • A genuine passion for helping students develop creativity, innovation, and practical skills
