Head of Early Careers and Learning & Development
We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Head of Early Careers and Learning & Development within our Group People Team.
Location: Hybrid. The team works remotely, with regular travel to Amey offices when required.

Join our vibrant, inclusive Group People Team and play a defining role in shaping how people begin, develop and progress their careers at Amey.
This is a newly created senior leadership role with strategic responsibility for Early Careers and Learning & Development across the UK and internationally. You will have 5 direct reports and will have overall responsibility for a team of nine Early Careers and Learning and Development professionals. You will bring together Learning, Talent, Leadership Development and Early Careers to create meaningful development opportunities, strengthen future capability and support sustainable business growth.
You will oversee Amey’s Early Careers Pathways, supporting approximately 700 to 800 colleagues on programmes at any one time, including graduates, apprentices, degree apprentices and placement students. You will also lead our wider learning and development strategy, ensuring colleagues at every level can access high-quality opportunities to build their capability and progress their careers.

What you will do
- Lead the strategy for Early Careers and Learning & Development, aligning investment and delivery with Amey’s People Strategy, workforce priorities and future capability needs.
- Shape and strengthen Amey’s Early Careers Pathways, covering oversight of demand planning and recruitment, programme quality, development, progression and retention.
- Create an integrated approach to learning, talent and succession, developing leadership pipelines, supporting internal mobility and preparing colleagues for critical future roles.
- Lead the next phase of Amey’s learning technology journey, acting as the senior L&D lead for the migration of the Learning Management System to SuccessFactors.
- Provide strong commercial and operational governance, including responsibility for learning suppliers, budgets and the effective use of Apprenticeship Levy funding.
- Lead, coach and develop the Early Careers and Learning & Development teams, building an inclusive, collaborative culture with clear accountability and a shared focus on impact.

What you will bring
Essential experience and capabilities
- Senior leadership experience across Early Careers, Learning & Development, talent or a comparable People portfolio within a large and complex organisation.
- Demonstrable experience of leading high-volume Early Careers programmes across a large organisation.
- Experience of leading, coaching and developing dispersed teams and delivering through stakeholders across different business areas or countries.
- Experience of leading a significant Learning Management System or HR technology implementation.
- Strong supplier, contract and budget management experience, with the ability to demonstrate value and commercial control.
- The credibility, communication skills and strategic judgement to influence senior stakeholders, simplify complexity and deliver at pace.
Qualifications and desirable experience
- A CIPD qualification or equivalent senior-level experience in HR, learning or organisational development.
- SuccessFactors implementation experience would be highly desirable.
- Practical knowledge of Apprenticeship Levy management, including forecasting and effective utilisation.
- Experience connecting learning and Early Careers with talent management, succession planning, workforce capability and internal mobility.
