Job Overview

The post holder will provide professional leadership and expertise for education and development of Healthcare Support Workers. Working closely with colleagues across the Health Board they will support the development and implementation of strategies and policies relating to HCSW education and development including work experience, induction, QCF, Certificate in Healthcare Practice, and part-time nursing routes.

The post holder will develop and oversee educational governance frameworks, ensuring that services meet Health Board and national quality standards, and will monitor and report on educational metrics to inform service improvement. They will work collaboratively with external agencies such as colleges, universities, HEIW, and act as a credible leader and expert resource for the team and multidisciplinary colleagues.

The role involves planning and managing the delivery of education services within agreed activity levels and budgets, promoting shared learning opportunities, and ensuring training provision is underpinned by an evidence-based approach. The role is an excellent opportunity for the post holder to shape and influence career development of HCSWs and broaden their own knowledge and skills.

Applicants must demonstrate excellent leadership skills, experience of managing a team, the ability to work collaboratively, and a track record of achievement.

The post is full time, however 30 hours would be considered.

This post is secondment for 12 months due to - meet the needs of the service.

Main Duties of the Job

The post holder will act as the professional nurse lead providing educational advice, leadership development, monitoring, and management for corporate nursing education teams, to facilitate excellent nursing practice through the education and development of the workforce thereby supporting the delivery of a high-quality, patient-centered service.

The post holder will be a clinical leader, working with the Director to identify opportunities for workforce development, service change, and improvement to encourage and enable advancement and development of associated evidence-based services.

He/she will be instrumental in developing and implementing educational governance frameworks and in giving professional advice in relation to the development of services, within the area of responsibility. They will be responsible for planning and coordination relevant to the service involving relevant stakeholders.

In line with agreed objectives, the post holder will have a key role in working with divisions, workforce, and education partners to develop the nursing workforce that will contribute to the delivery of the local service plans, Health and Well Being Strategies, and other national strategies that are:

  • Based on patient and public involvement
  • Liberate the potential of staff

Responsible for the leadership and development of the nursing education team and monitoring and improving quality standards and stakeholder experience, ensuring professional challenge occurring as necessary.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

A prime focus of the role is on the education and development of the workforce across the health board, primarily nurses, midwives, healthcare support workers, and operating department practitioners.

  • To support the Director in the development and implementation of strategy and policy relating to the following areas:
    • Education, training, and development
    • Pre and Post Registration Education
    • Fitness to practise and revalidation
    • Workforce development
    • Clinical learning environment and skills development
  • Provide leadership, service development, and management to the designated specialty.
  • Work in partnership with external agencies such as universities and colleges, HEIW, and professional bodies such as the NMC, HCPC.
  • Be a credible leader and expert in the relevant specialty, providing supervision, guidance, and support for the nursing teams and the wider multidisciplinary teams.
  • Responsible for monitoring and ensuring that the educational service meets local, regional, and national quality standards.
  • Support the Director to develop and deliver the educational service metrics and lead operational change to ensure there is a sound academic and evidence base.
  • Provide leadership and direction to own team and a range of staff within other corporate and divisional teams and in collaboration ensure that staff comply with BCUHB standards and take the appropriate corrective action where required.
  • Responsible for budgets and physical resources within the area of responsibility supporting the Director with the educational service budget.
  • Responsible for and have delegated authority for planning, organizing, implementing, and managing the delivery of educational services, within the area of responsibility to agreed activity levels, within budget, in line with the BCUHB policies and procedures and the NMC Code.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Registered professional e.g. NMC, HPC
  • Significant relevant experience in a managerial post
  • Teaching/assessing qualification or experience
  • Masters Degree or equivalent experience in Nursing or health-related subject or working towards with completion in two years

  • PGCE
