Head of HSE - Group

We are looking to recruit a Head of HSE. This is an opportunity for an established Senior EHS Manager who is ready to take on the next step in their career. Following our Director of EHS taking on a broader role within the business, this is a unique opportunity to progress your career.

You will take the lead in managing day to day activities of the EHS department, supporting our regional construction teams and providing leadership to our EHS Managers and Advisors across our Group function.

Working closely with our Director, you will implement the Group EHS strategy across 22 live construction sites, whilst taking ownership of the operational delivery, standards and continuous improvement of the function.

The Role:

  • Leading and managing day to day operation of the EHS department.
  • Managing, developing and supporting EHS Managers and Advisors across both regions.
  • Providing senior EHS support and guidance to our construction teams.
  • Leading accident and incident investigations, including complex and serious incidents.
  • Providing senior oversight of high risk activities across our developments.
  • Developing, maintaining and implementing EHS policies, procedures and standards.
  • Leading the Group EHS audit programme and ensuring effective follow up of findings.
  • Managing the approved contractor process and contractor EHS standards.
  • Preparing EHS reports and providing updates to senior leadership and the Board.
  • Building strong relationships with the HSE, insurers and other external stakeholders.
  • Supporting the Director of Risk, Quality & Governance in delivering group EHS strategy.
  • Deputising for the Director on EHS matters when required.

About You:

This role would suit an experienced Senior EHS Manager who feels ready to take that next step. We are looking for someone who has the experience, credibility and leadership capability to step into the role and grow with it.

  • Around 8-10 years EHS experience, preferably within housebuilding, construction or similar environment.
  • Experience managing and developing EHS professionals.
  • Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations and construction health and safety.
  • Experience investigating accidents and serious incidents.
  • Experience supporting construction teams with high risk activities.
  • Confidence working with senior leaders and influencing at all levels.
  • The ability to balance strategic objectives with the practical day to day demands of a busy construction business.
  • A proactive, pragmatic and continuous improvement mindset.

Qualifications:

Essential

  • NEBOSH Diploma/NVQ 6 Occupational Safety & Health or equivalent.
  • Chartered/Certified IOSH membership (CMIOSH or working towards)
  • CISRS Scaffold inspection.

Desirable

  • CITB Temporary Works Coordinator.
  • Level 3 Education & Training or above.
  • Appointed Person/Lifting Operations qualification.
  • NEBOSH Environmental or equivalent.
  • Level 5/7 Leadership & Management qualification.
