Altum Consulting is partnering with a large, complex organisation to appoint a Head of Employee Services. This is a unique opportunity to lead the transformation and delivery of employee services while shaping the future of HR operations across a large UK workforce.

Reporting to the Director of Shared Services, this role combines operational leadership with strategic process ownership, ensuring employee services are delivered consistently, efficiently, and with an exceptional employee experience at the heart.

The organisation is embarking on a significant transformation journey over the coming years, including the implementation of a new HRIS, payroll and time & attendance solutions, making this an exciting opportunity to influence large-scale change and modernise HR service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Employee Services function, overseeing HR Administration, Payroll, Benefits, Pensions, and Occupational Health Administration.
  • Act as the Global Process Owner for employee services, driving standardisation, governance, and continuous improvement across the organisation.
  • Develop and implement global HR processes, ensuring consistency while accommodating local requirements.
  • Lead large-scale transformation initiatives, including HR systems, payroll, and service delivery improvements.
  • Build and maintain governance frameworks, KPIs, SLAs, and performance reporting to drive operational excellence.
  • Partner closely with HR, Finance, IT, and senior business leaders to deliver an outstanding employee experience.
  • Drive automation, process optimisation, and digital transformation through HR technology and data.
  • Lead change management and communications to support new processes, systems, and organisational change.
  • Manage third-party vendors and implementation partners to ensure successful delivery.

Experience Required

  • Significant experience leading HR Operations, Employee Services, or Shared Services within a large, complex organisation.
  • Strong background in HR process ownership, standardisation, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience delivering HR transformation programmes, including HRIS and payroll implementations.
  • Strong understanding of HR operations, payroll, pensions, employee lifecycle processes, and service delivery.
  • Proven ability to build governance frameworks, performance metrics, and scalable operating models.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with experience influencing senior leadership.
  • Experience working with HR technologies such as Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, ServiceNow, or similar.
  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies would be advantageous.
