Head of Engineering

Department: Engineering Employment Type: Full Time Location: UK

About the Role

Reports to: VP of Technology Location: Remote (UK-based)

We're looking for an experienced engineering leader to take ownership of Biorelate’s engineering function. You'll manage six direct reports, including leads for Platform Engineering (including Security), Data Engineering, and Full-Stack Engineering, overseeing a total of around 13 engineers. Your primary responsibility is to ensure the smooth operation of the engineering team—shaping culture, developing processes, and driving project delivery—while also maintaining strong technical influence to make sound decisions, conduct architecture reviews, and handle critical production incidents.

The role involves supporting Biorelate’s mission: accelerating drug discovery by building the world’s largest and most accurate biomedical knowledge graph and ensuring this data reaches those who need it most.

What You’ll Own

You’ll be accountable for the following key areas:

  • The Engineering Function as a Whole Ownership of six direct reports and their teams, while delivering against performance, technical quality, culture, and people development goals.

  • Technical Leadership Across Three Disciplines While not expected to be the deepest expert in every area, you’ll be responsible for:

    • Defining best practices across platform, data, and full-stack engineering.
    • Holding credible technical discussions with team leads.
    • Making strategic cross-disciplinary decisions.
  • People Development & Growth

    • Developing your direct reports and fostering growth within the engineering team.
    • Influencing recruitment, promotion, and performance decisions.
    • Championing wellbeing within the organisation.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
