Head of Data Engineering
£120,000 + strong benefits

We're working with a fast-growing, investor-backed technology company to find a Head of Data Engineering who will take end-to-end accountability for data, from ingestion through to metric reporting, and deliver business-critical insight across the organisation. This is a Head of Data Engineering role that sits at the heart of the business, balancing hands-on technical work with strategic leadership. You'll be the go-to expert for data warehouse design, data modelling best practice and tool selection, leading a small team of data engineers within a wider data and analytics function.

Responsibilities as a Head of Data Engineering
- Own and refine the long-term data engineering strategy, aligning it with company objectives and modern technology
- Set the roadmap and clear goals for yourself and your team, and report progress to the wider business
- Partner with engineering leads, data team heads, regulatory professionals and external vendors to ensure alignment and compliance
- Enable reliable, self-service analytics at scale across the organisation
- Own orchestration, ETL and live reporting so downstream KPIs are accurate and timely, with monitoring and alerting that makes the team first to know when issues arise
- Integrate new data sources as the business grows, manage key vendor relationships and evaluate emerging tooling
- Champion data literacy company-wide, building a culture of learning through documentation, training and knowledge sharing
- Manage data access controls and security privileges across the tech stack

Requirements
- Advanced SQL at both production-grade and analytical level in a commercial environment
- Proven experience extracting, transforming and loading data across disparate environments
- Hands-on experience building data views in a major BI tool (for example Looker, Power BI, Tableau or MicroStrategy)
- Experience leading or managing high-functioning technical talent, with a genuine passion for helping people reach their potential
- Deep knowledge of data engineering best practice and modern consumption-layer design
- A pragmatic, curious, commercially minded Head of Data Engineering with a track record of measurable impact
