Are you an ambitious and inspiring English leader ready to make a lasting impact within a thriving secondary school?
We are working with a well-regarded secondary school in Birmingham seeking to appoint an exceptional Head of English on a permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced English teacher or current middle leader looking to lead a dedicated department and drive excellence in teaching and learning.
The successful candidate will be passionate about raising achievement, developing an engaging English curriculum, and supporting students of all abilities to reach their full potential. You will play a key role in shaping the vision of the department, mentoring colleagues, and ensuring high standards across Key Stages 3 and 4, with opportunities to influence further curriculum development.

The Role
- Lead and manage the English department across KS3 and KS4
- Drive outstanding teaching, learning, and student outcomes
- Monitor progress and implement effective intervention strategies
- Support and develop department staff through coaching and mentoring
- Contribute to whole-school improvement initiatives
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and ambitious learning environment
The Ideal Candidate
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Proven experience teaching English in a secondary setting
- Previous leadership responsibility or readiness to step into a leadership role
- Strong knowledge of curriculum development and assessment
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Passion for raising standards and inspiring young people
