This is a field based role
This is a field based role which will require regular travel to multiple sites across the UK and Ireland - ideally looking for someone based in or around Birmingham. This will require hybrid working, with 2-3 days onsite.
Join our HSE & Fleet Safety team
Join a passionate, high-performing HSE & Fleet Safety team that goes beyond compliance to create a culture of continuous improvement, accountability and learning. Reporting into the Group Health & Safety Director, you'll lead and develop a team of HSE professionals, empowering them to deliver a proactive, value-added service while building strong partnerships across the business. Together, you'll drive positive change, challenge the status quo, and create safer, more capable and self-sufficient teams at every level of the organisation.
About the Role
- Provide expert HSE and fleet safety guidance to operational and senior leadership teams.
- Maintain compliance with HSE legislation, Operator’s Licence requirements, and industry best practice.
- Build strong relationships with key external bodies, including the DVSA, Traffic Commissioner, insurers and Primary Authority.
- Lead site audits, reviews and improvement plans to drive compliance and reduce incidents.
- Develop and deliver HSE capability programmes, workshops and e-learning initiatives.
- Manage and coach a team of HSE & Fleet Safety Business Partners.
- Support high-quality risk assessments, workplace inspections and incident investigations.
- Lead serious accident and road traffic collision investigations, ensuring lessons learned are embedded.
- Drive behavioural safety initiatives and promote a positive safety culture.
- Oversee environmental compliance, including waste management, pollution control and sustainability initiatives.
- Ensure accurate reporting, record management and communication of HSE performance.
- Deputise for the Group Health & Safety Director when required.

About you
- Proven experience leading HSE teams and delivering measurable performance improvements.
- Strong influencing, coaching and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience managing change and driving engagement across operational environments.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
- Sound knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
- Experience coordinating and delivering training programmes.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- NEBOSH, OTHM or equivalent HSE qualification (degree level preferred).
- Chartered membership of a recognised professional body (e.g. IOSH).
- IEMA Foundation Certificate (or equivalent environmental qualification).
- Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
- Operational and logistics environment experience is desirable.
