Description

This is a pivotal leadership role as the Head of Estate Operations, where you will maintain the strategic and operational future of our diverse, historic campuses. You will lead our in-house teams and specialist contractors to drive excellence, resilience, and decarbonisation across all Hard FM services.
About the Role
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for all Hard FM services, including mechanical, electrical, building infrastructure, and external estate assets.
- Act as the University’s Engineering Authority and named Authorised Person for Electrical High Voltage supplies, ensuring strict regulatory compliance, health and safety, and statutory standards.
- Lead and manage the in-house direct labour maintenance, gardening teams, and specialist external contractors to deliver a student-focused, efficient service.
- Develop and deliver a lifecycle and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) approach to manage backlog maintenance risks and improve asset resilience.
- Manage maintenance and lifecycle budgets, ensuring capital renewal and minor works deliver value for money and align with institutional strategy.

About You
- Significant experience managing maintenance, M&E and grounds services within a complex organisation.
- Strong technical understanding of mechanical and electrical building services.
- Experience of managing contractors, consultants and multi-disciplinary teams. Strong leadership, influencing and negotiation skills.
- Experience contributing to Smart Campus, digital estates or energy management programmes.
- Experience supporting sustainability or decarbonisation initiatives.

Additional Information
- Salary Grade 9A - Starting from £63,606 rising to £67,469 per annum
- The salary range shows the potential maximum pay progression in addition to any annual inflationary increase to your pay. Please note that our default position is to appoint into the lower end of the range, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Role Requirements
- The role holder must have the ability to inspect all elements of building construction, including roofs, mechanical and electrical services and landscape works.
- The role will participate in an on-call 1 week in three rota. They will be available outside of core service hours to work as required and to physically attend the university site if the matter cannot be dealt with remotely.
- Occasional work outside normal hours for emergency response and contract supervision.
- Commitment to continuing professional development.
- Ability to work across all University sites and travel as required.
