Job Purpose
As the Head of Europe Compliance, you will lead the compliance function in Europe for a global alternative investment platform; the firm is a leading investment adviser to real estate, infrastructure, and private credit assets.
Working closely with relevant stakeholders, you will provide practical advice to support the business while maintaining high standards of regulatory compliance and ethical conduct. You will be responsible for helping ensure that the regulated activities of the manager’s European businesses are conducted in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and regulatory requirements.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Serve as the FCA-approved Senior Manager for SMF16 (Compliance Oversight) and/or SMF17 (Money Laundering Reporting Officer or MLRO), and discharging the responsibilities associated with those functions in accordance with the applicable Statement(s) of Responsibilities under the FCA Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SMCR).
- Responsible for leading and managing the UK based investment compliance team and for oversight of UK investment advisers.
- Responsible for overseeing compliance with applicable rules and regulations for distribution activities in the UK and continental Europe.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with the UK MiFID and UK AIFMD regulatory frameworks applicable to investment advisory, portfolio management, and AIFM activities.
- Providing practical, risk-based advice on the application and interpretation of applicable laws, regulations, regulatory guidance, industry standards, and internal policies.
- Monitoring regulatory developments and emerging compliance risks, assessing their impact on the business, and implementing appropriate changes to compliance policies, procedures, and controls.
- Developing, maintaining, and reviewing the Compliance Manual and related compliance policies and procedures.
- Supporting new products, fund launches, acquisitions, strategic initiatives, and changes to the control environment by providing compliance advice throughout the product lifecycle.
- Supporting investor and client due diligence activities and responding to regulatory compliance inquiries.
- Developing and overseeing a risk-based compliance monitoring programme to assess the effectiveness of compliance controls and identify opportunities for enhancement.
- Managing conflicts of interest, personal account dealing, insider list administration, information barriers, and customer and counterparty due diligence programmes.
- Managing relationships with the FCA and other relevant regulatory authorities, including regulatory inspections, information requests, and supervisory engagement.
- Reporting significant compliance matters, regulatory developments, and monitoring results to senior management, governance committees, Boards, and the Global Chief Compliance Officer, as appropriate.
- Engaging external legal counsel or regulatory advisers, where appropriate, to obtain specialist advice on UK, continental Europe or overseas regulatory matters.

- Extensive compliance experience within an FCA-regulated asset manager, investment adviser, or alternative investment manager.
- Experience leading and developing a team.
- Experience serving as, or supporting, SMF16 (Compliance Oversight) and/or SMF17 (Money Laundering Reporting Officer) is preferred.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong knowledge of the FCA Handbook, UK regulatory requirements, and the MiFID regulatory framework.
- Experience supporting institutional private markets businesses, including private real estate, infrastructure, and/or private credit.
- Experience advising on alternative investment fund structures, fund launches, fundraising, marketing, and regulatory matters.
- Experience interacting with the FCA and managing regulatory reporting, examinations, or supervisory engagement.
- Ability to build effective working relationships across a global business.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to deadlines.
- Sound judgement, analytical skills, and a practical approach to problem solving.
- Self-motivated, collaborative, and able to operate effectively in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
