About the Company

We are working with a think tank that has a deep understanding of regional geopolitics and geo-economics. Its international researchers provide best-in-class, independent and impartial analysis and offer insights on strategic challenges and priorities to governments and the private sector.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced, commercially minded and inspirational Head of External Relations to lead the organisation's membership and sponsorship activity. Reporting to the Director of External Relations, this is a senior role with responsibility for setting strategy, leading a team of five and delivering growth across both membership and sponsorship for the Institute's global activities. Approximately 50% of the role is focused on membership and 50% on corporate sponsorship.

You will be responsible for developing strategies that grow membership, strengthen member engagement, and increase sponsorship income through high-value corporate relationships with an international client base. You will play a key role in shaping the wider external relations strategy alongside the Director of External Relations, translating organisational priorities into clear plans and measurable objectives for the team. You will be equally comfortable operating at strategic level and getting into the details. Someone who knows when to delegate and empower their team, but who is also willing to roll up their sleeves when circumstances require it.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, manage and develop a team of five across membership and sponsorship, setting clear objectives, priorities and performance expectations, and identifying opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • Maintain a positive, collaborative and high-performing team culture, ensuring the team has the resources, processes and support required to deliver against its objectives.
  • Delegate effectively while maintaining appropriate oversight of and involvement in activities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
