About The Role
A safe pair of hands for our COO
There's nothing unique about the tech we all use. What makes Intercity special is our people, and that's exactly why this role matters. Our COO needs someone they can hand the keys to. Someone who takes full ownership of our estate, our security and our new flagship HQ, and just gets on with it.
If you've run a serious commercial estate before, know Health & Safety inside out, and want a role where your judgement is trusted, we'd like to talk to you.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a comprehensive Facilities, Maintenance, Security and Health & Safety service across the Intercity and Wider estate
- Ensure compliance and certification are maintained across all relevant areas of maintenance, security and H&S legislation
- Lead our site strategy and forward development roadmap
- Lead the transformation of our flagship HQ into a showcase for our business, culture, technology and security
- Manage the Facilities and Security budgets, continually reviewing and finding ways to add value
- Develop a security plan and rota that keeps our buildings running safely, whatever the operational demands
- Manage the Birmingham Data Centre and our company vehicle fleet
- Manage contractors and in-house colleagues delivering maintenance, remediation and small works
- Ensure every contractor holds the required permits and competencies, and works to proper risk assessments and safe systems of work
- Act as the point of escalation, including occasional call outs in and out of hours

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
