Referment
Referment is working with an international AI software company serving investment and professional-services clients. The business is hiring a Head of Finance to own quote-to-cash, accounting operations, controls, and statutory compliance while building a lean, highly automated finance function.
This is a hands-on leadership role with authority to decide what should be handled internally, outsourced, or automated. You’ll partner with technical colleagues on usage-based billing, oversee reporting across UK and US entities, and keep the business ready for financing and customer diligence.
The Role
- Own quote-to-cash, including contract structure, invoicing, collections, cash application, revenue recognition, and close.
- Design billing processes for complex usage-based pricing with engineers and data specialists.
- Lead cash management, intercompany activity, tax, statutory compliance, and internal controls.
- Ensure appropriate US GAAP and IFRS or UK GAAP treatment, policies, and transaction memos.
- Oversee financial statements, payroll accounting, payables, receivables, and period-end close.
- Lead external audits, banking relationships, customer financial diligence, and financing readiness.
- Support planning, variance analysis, and cross-functional business decisions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
