4 days in the office / 1 day WFH
Ideal start: Before Christmas
The Opportunity
We’re working with an exciting VC-backed hardware start-up that is entering a major phase of growth. With an excellent founding team, strong investor backing and ambitious plans for international expansion, they are now looking for a Head of Finance to take ownership of the finance function and become a key partner to the founders as the business scales. This is a role for someone who wants genuine influence. You’ll be close to the founders, investors and wider leadership team, helping shape the financial strategy of the business rather than simply reporting on what has already happened.

- Owning the overall finance function, including reporting, controls, cash flow and planning
- Building and maintaining robust financial models to support growth and decision-making
- Leading budgeting, forecasting and scenario planning
- Producing high-quality management accounts, board reporting and investor reporting
- Working closely with the founders on commercial strategy, growth plans and investment decisions
- Taking ownership of cash flow, working capital and financial planning
- Supporting and leading future fundraising activity
- Managing relationships with investors, accountants, auditors, banks and external advisers
- Supporting the business through international expansion, including new markets and entities
- Developing scalable finance processes, systems and controls
- Providing commercial insight across product, operations, sales and wider business functions
- Building out the finance team as the company grows

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
