A genuine No.1 finance role combining strong financial control with commercial business partnering and the opportunity to help shape the future of a growing business.
We're working with a successful, growing business that has consistently delivered year-on-year growth and is now looking for a Head of Finance to take ownership of the finance function and become a key member of the senior leadership team.
Reporting directly to the Directors, you'll lead and develop the finance team and take responsibility for the quality, accuracy, and insight coming from finance.
You'll have a strong grounding in financial control, reporting, and management information, but this role is about much more than producing the numbers. You'll be expected to understand what the numbers are telling you, business partner with the Directors and wider leadership team, challenge performance, and provide advice and recommendations that help shape future decisions.
You'll play an important role in planning for the future, contributing to growth plans, strategy, budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling, whilst ensuring the underlying finance function remains robust and well controlled.
What You'll Get Involved In
- Own the finance function and act as a key finance business partner and adviser to the Directors.
- Lead, manage, and develop a finance team, creating a high-performing and supportive function.
- Maintain strong financial control across the business, ensuring accurate, timely, and robust reporting.
- Own the month-end process, management accounts, and wider financial reporting.
- Produce high-quality Board packs with meaningful analysis, commentary, and insight, not simply a set of numbers.
- Business partner with the Directors and operational teams to understand performance, identify issues, and help turn financial insight into commercial decisions.
- Explain financial performance clearly, identifying trends, risks, opportunities, and areas requiring attention.
- Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning process.
- Build and maintain financial models to support decision-making, investment, and growth plans.
- Work closely with the Directors on growth opportunities, strategy, and future plans, providing financial advice, constructive challenge, and recommendations.
- Be commercially minded and proactively make suggestions around profitability, margins, cash generation, investment, and business performance.
- Partner with operational and commercial teams to understand the drivers of performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Consolidate multiple entities and provide robust group-level reporting.
- Review and improve finance systems, processes, and reporting as the business scales.
- Explore how AI, automation, and technology can improve the efficiency and capability of the finance function.
- Get involved in wider strategic and commercial projects as the business continues to grow.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- Proven experience managing, developing, and motivating a finance team.
