We are pleased to be partnering with a major international charity to recruit an Interim Head of Finance.
The organisation works globally to tackle poverty, inequality and humanitarian need, partnering with communities and organisations across a wide range of countries.
This is a senior interim role reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, with responsibility for leading core financial operations, financial control, planning and reporting across a geographically dispersed finance team. The organisation is looking for someone who can start as soon as possible, ideally during November, and provide experienced leadership through an important period for the finance function.
About the role
The Interim Head of Finance will oversee a broad remit covering financial operations, management and statutory reporting, planning and budgeting, cashflow and financial control.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing the production of management accounts and year-end financial statements
- Supporting the completion of the current year-end accounts and responding to outstanding audit queries
- Leading budgeting, financial planning and quarterly reforecasting
- Managing cashflow and supporting the organisation's approach to restricted and unrestricted funding
- Maintaining strong financial controls and ensuring consistent processes across the finance function
- Providing leadership and support to a geographically dispersed international team
- Managing senior finance team members, including the Head of Payroll and Financial Operations Lead
- Supporting the development of the finance team structure and helping strengthen capability, accountability and ways of working
- Acting as a senior finance partner to colleagues across the organisation

The finance team has been through a period of change and is relatively new in places, so this role will suit someone who is comfortable providing hands-on leadership while also bringing structure, consistency and clear oversight.
The ideal candidate will bring
- Significant experience operating at Head of Finance, Financial Controller or equivalent senior level
- Strong financial control and financial operations experience
- Experience overseeing year-end accounts and external audit
- Strong management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and cashflow experience
- Experience working with restricted and unrestricted funding
- Strong people management skills and the ability to lead teams through periods of change
- Experience working within an international organisation and across geographically dispersed teams
- The confidence to work with senior stakeholders and provide clear financial leadership
- Experience within the charity, NGO or wider not-for-profit sector would be particularly useful

Key details
- Salary: £82,000 per annum
- Contract: Fixed-term interim contract, expected to run until at least the end of March
- Start date: ASAP, ideally during November
- Working pattern: Full-time
- Hybrid working: Two office days per week, from Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
- Location: London, with an expected move to offices near Fenchurch Street
The organisation is open to candidates who may ultimately be interested in the permanent opportunity, although the immediate priority is securing an experienced interim who can provide strong leadership and continuity over the coming months.
