We’re currently searching for a Head of Finance to join us on a permanent basis following the appointment of an Interim solution. You will be responsible for our Jewson branch network across the South East, Central and Wales.
Job Purpose
The Head of Finance is a key member of the Divisional Leadership Team, partnering closely with the Managing Director to drive commercial performance, profitable growth, and strategic decision-making across the division.
Operating within a complex multi-site environment, the role provides financial leadership to a business comprising multiple regions, branches, and support functions. The successful candidate will combine strong financial acumen with commercial insight, influencing operational leaders to improve sales, margin, productivity and cash generation, whilst having control over costs.
This role is not solely focused on financial stewardship; it is a highly visible leadership position that shapes business strategy, challenges performance, and delivers actionable insight to improve results.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with strong technical and commercial finance expertise.
- Proven finance leadership experience within a complex, multi-site business environment, ideally across distribution, merchanting, retail, wholesale, or similarly operationally intensive sectors.
- Significant experience supporting a sales-led or trading business, with a strong understanding of the commercial drivers of revenue, gross margin, customer profitability and pricing.
- Demonstrable track record of successfully partnering senior operational leaders to drive profitable growth, improve financial performance, and influence strategic decision-making.
- Strong commercial finance and business partnering capability, with experience translating financial insight into tangible business actions and outcomes.
- Experience operating effectively within a matrix organisation, building strong relationships and influencing stakeholders across multiple functions and levels of seniority.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
