Royal Mail has launched an industry-first pension plan the Collective Plan, featuring a groundbreaking Collective Defined Contribution element. This innovative approach, introduced in October 2024, is transforming the way pensions work.
With assets reaching over £1bn in less than two years, the plan is overseen by a Trustee Board and supported by a strong in-house Executive Team. As Head of Finance and Investment, you’ll be part of the senior leadership team, driving strategy and delivery for one of the most exciting developments in the industry.

About The Role
You will work closely with the Head of the Executive to support the Trustee and lead all financial, funding, and investment operations whilst also supporting delivery of all broader Executive team functions.
This includes:
- Leading the Funding & Investment and Covenant Committees, delivering on key projects such as CDC and DB valuations and investment strategy reviews
- Managing relationships with advisers (Actuary, Outsourced Chief Investment Officer, auditor, covenant adviser, tax adviser) and overseeing performance reviews
- Driving efficiencies in financial processes and administration, including contribution monitoring and financial accounting
- Leading the annual budget process and ensuring robust internal controls and audit compliance
- Leading on the Plan’s tax governance and compliance
- Setting strategic direction for Committee and Board papers
- Building and developing a high-performing team to support the Trustee’s vision

About You
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:
- Adaptable, strategic thinker with strong influencing and facilitation skills
- Proven ability to build positive relationships with Trustees, advisers, and stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication with meticulous attention to detail
- Deep pensions knowledge (DB/DC, Master Trust preferred) and ability to interpret legislation and codes of practice
- Experience leading actuarial, finance, or investment functions in-house or via consultancy
- Strong understanding of Trustee Board servicing across administration, actuarial, investment, and governance
- Degree or equivalent experience; actuarial, finance, or accountancy qualifications preferred
