Head of Finance Operations

Greater Manchester

£115 – 130k plus bonus and benefits

Perm

Nigel Wright is partnering with a highly successful, private equity-backed organisation undergoing a significant period of growth, transformation, and systems investment. With revenues in excess of £400m and a finance operations function of more than 50 people, this is a high-profile leadership opportunity offering both strategic influence and operational ownership.

This is far more than a traditional Head of Finance Operations position. You will inherit a substantial finance shared services environment and play a critical role in developing and transforming the function during a major business-wide change programme.

The Opportunity

Reporting into a highly supportive Group Finance Director, you will lead a sizeable team ensuring operational excellence while driving a culture of accountability, service, and continuous improvement.

Key priorities include:

  • Leading a finance operations function handling hundreds of millions of pounds of annual transactions and revenue.
  • Driving performance, governance, and service delivery across all transactional finance activities.
  • Building credibility with senior stakeholders across finance, operations, technology, and commercial functions.
  • Leading a major finance transformation programme including new systems, process redesign, and automation initiatives.
  • Developing and strengthening an established management team while creating a high-performance culture.
  • Delivering measurable improvements in efficiency, controls, cash collection, and customer service.
  • Development of all SLA and KPI’s across the function and delivery of key performance information to the executive team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
