Job description
A leading national museum is seeking an experienced Interim Head of Finance to provide leadership and continuity through a period of organizational change.
Leading a small finance team, you'll take responsibility for the day-to-day leadership of the finance function, ensuring strong financial controls, compliance, and reporting while providing senior financial expertise to the wider organization.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys combining hands-on financial leadership with business partnering, working closely with directors and budget holders to strengthen financial understanding and support effective decision-making.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and develop a small finance team, providing oversight and technical support.
- Maintain strong financial controls, governance, and compliance, including required government reporting.
- Oversee year-end and ensure the organization is well prepared for its 31 March year-end.
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting cycle, including reviewing forecasts and preparing financial information for the Board.
- Partner with directors and budget holders, providing financial advice, challenge, and support.
- Continue to improve finance processes, reporting, and automation, including the effective use of NetSuite.
- Provide financial oversight of the organization's trading subsidiary, including profitability, costing, and appropriate cross-charging.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
