Head of Finance System Transformation

Location: Hybrid (London)

Sector: Public

Salary: £65,000-75,000

Overview

The Head of Finance System Transformation will lead the development, performance, and continuous improvement of the organisation’s finance systems landscape. This includes ownership of their ERP and associated finance and income-related systems. The role is responsible for ensuring systems support operational efficiency, financial control, reporting accuracy, and strategic objectives.

Working within the Finance function, the postholder will drive system improvements, automation opportunities, and transformation initiatives. They will develop and maintain a systems roadmap, manage supplier relationships, ensure strong governance and data integrity, and collaborate closely with Finance, Technology, and operational teams. The role also includes line management of a Finance Systems Analyst.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee access controls, permissions, licence management, and master-data governance across ERP and related systems.
  • Manage configuration changes, system enhancements, risk mitigation, and compliance with audit and financial-control requirements.
  • Develop and deliver a finance systems roadmap aligned to organisational strategy, identifying opportunities for automation, optimisation, and improved efficiency.
  • Lead system improvement and transformation projects from concept to delivery, including testing, deployment, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ensure day-to-day integrity of finance systems and support improvements to reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and year-end processes.
  • Manage other staff to drive efficiency and improvement.
  • Build strong relationships across Finance, Technology, and operations; liaise with external vendors, consultants, and auditors to ensure smooth system operations and compliance.

Candidate Overview

  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, or equivalent, with strong technical accounting knowledge.
  • Significant experience managing finance systems, supporting financial processes, and leading system improvements.
  • Skilled in advanced system integrations, automation, user stories, test scripts, and UAT.
  • Proven ability to drive process improvement, lead transformation initiatives, and influence stakeholders.
  • Strong communicator able to explain technical concepts clearly and build relationships across departments.
  • Focused on innovation, efficiency, and strengthening financial control through better systems and processes.
