Where will you be working?
M Group Energy Infrastructure Division is seeking a dynamic and technically strong Head of Financial Control responsible for leading financial governance, statutory reporting, balance sheet integrity and financial controls across the division.
The role provides leadership across financial accounting, audit, risk and compliance activities, whilst working closely with operational, commercial and finance teams to ensure robust financial management and high-quality reporting. As a key member of the divisional finance leadership team, the role will help shape and strengthen the financial control environment across a newly formed division, supporting both organic growth and future acquisition activity.
What will you be doing?
Leadership & Business Partnering
- Build strong relationships with operational, commercial and finance stakeholders across the business.
- Translate technical financial matters into practical business solutions and recommendations.
- Coach, develop and support the Finance Team, creating a high-performance and development-focused culture.
- Collaborate with the wider divisional finance leadership team to align ways of working, governance standards and continuous improvement initiatives.
Financial Control & Governance
- Lead the financial control framework across the Energy Infrastructure division, ensuring robust governance, strong balance sheet control and compliance with Group policies.
- Ensure timely and accurate statutory, divisional and group reporting.
- Maintain ownership of balance sheet integrity, including reconciliations, provisions, accruals and working capital management.
- Provide technical accounting leadership and support on complex accounting issues, transactions and reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and Group financial policies.

Process Improvement & Transformation
- Develop and standardise financial processes and controls across a newly formed division.
- Drive continuous improvement in financial reporting, governance and control activities.
- Simplify and strengthen processes whilst maintaining an appropriate control environment.
Audit, Risk & Compliance
- Lead relationships with internal and external auditors.
- Coordinate audit activity across the division and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
- Support risk management activities and ensure appropriate financial controls are in place to mitigate operational and financial risks.
- Work closely with Group Finance, Tax, Treasury and Internal Audit teams.
What you’ll bring:
- Qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA) with significant post-qualification experience.
- Proven track record in a senior financial control, financial accounting or finance leadership role.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, including statutory reporting, audit and financial governance.
- Experience of operating within a complex, multi-site or project-based environment.
- Strong understanding of financial controls, risk management and balance sheet governance.
- Experience of finance process improvement, systems implementation or finance transformation activity.
- Experience supporting acquisitions or business integrations would be advantageous.
- Infrastructure, engineering, contracting or construction experience would be beneficial but not essential.
