My client is a well-established international insurer with a strong presence in Asia. They are looking for a Head of Financial Lines Underwriting to join their Hong Kong team.

What you will do:

  • Take ownership of the underwriting activities and P&L responsibility for the Financial Lines portfolio in Hong Kong
  • Drive sustainable portfolio growth and profitability through sound risk selection, pricing discipline, and portfolio management
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of junior Financial Lines underwriters, building technical capability and supporting their professional growth
  • Build and strengthen relationships with brokers, intermediaries, and key business partners, focusing on service quality, product development, and business growth
  • Provide senior technical expertise across Financial Lines products and act as a key referral point for complex risks
  • Contribute to the development and execution of underwriting strategy, including new business opportunities, renewal retention, and product innovation
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory developments to inform underwriting decisions and identify growth opportunities
  • Ensure strong underwriting governance, compliance with internal authorities, and adherence to risk appetite
  • Act as a role model for leadership behaviors and support the overall development of underwriting excellence within the team

Requirements:

  • Solid underwriting experience in Financial Lines (ideally covering multiple products such as D&O, Professional Indemnity, Cyber, Crime, or related lines)
  • Previous people management or team leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of the Hong Kong insurance market, including established broker and intermediary relationships
  • Sound understanding of underwriting principles, risk assessment, pricing, and portfolio management
  • Commercial mindset with the ability to balance technical underwriting with business development objectives
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent professional experience
  • Willingness to work in a hybrid arrangement based in Hong Kong
